MAKE-a-dIFFERENCE-dAY 2009

Local volunteers and those from WEA [Workers Educational Association]and Milton Residents Association are seen here participating in the 2009 Make-a-difference-Day event.  This year, in wonderful weather, volunteers planted large quantities of Daffodil bulbs at the roadside in Milton.  Funding was received from the Ward discretionary budget and additional bulbs were donated by Homebase and Lidls.  Many thanks to all the volunteers and businesses that made this day a success, the fruits of their labour will be evident in the spring when the roadside will be awash with spring colour.

 TIMEBANK LAUNCH CAITHNESS

The Wick office is launching a new pilot iniayive in volunteering this spring called Timebank.  This scheme is where people volunteer to 'bank' their time instead of money.  Initially peoples skills are logged they then become members and the 'giver' and 'receiver' of volunteer services are matched to enable them to help each other.

  • each hour you volunteer you receive 1 hour of time credit
  • All members contributions are valued equally regardless of the skills they offer, e.g whether it is to walk a dog, give someone a lift or research on the internet for someone
  • You can also donate your time credits to the 'community bank' to assist organisations
  • people receiving volunteer help are expected to reciprocate
