Core Skills – Volunteer Management Training
Our Core Skills in Volunteer Management training is a suite of units covering all the essentials of volunteer management. Suitable for both someone new to volunteer management as well as those who have been in the business for a while, these enjoyable and interactive courses will help you develop your professional volunteer management skills and share experience with other managers.
The Core Skills training is designed so that you can either attend all the units and get a complete over view of volunteer management or you can mix and match individual days on subjects that you feel are of most interest to you.

Planning to Use Volunteers
Using volunteers within your organisation not only means you can achieve more but involving volunteers brings a unique added value to any organisation. Good volunteer involvement pays huge dividends but it needs a good solid foundation to make it work well.  If you want to make sure your practice is as good as it can be, this course is for you.
During this course you will explore the benefits of working with volunteers, how to manage volunteers with different motivations, the importance of having formal structures including how to develop a volunteer policy, creating volunteer agreements and task descriptions and the basic requirements to keep you and your volunteers safe.

Effective Volunteer Recruitment
Covers the essentials when devising a recruitment and selection plan for volunteers. This unit is for anyone within an organisation that has responsibility for coordinating or managing volunteers.
During the session we will focus on recruitment methods, marketing and will address the needs of organisations and volunteers in relation to interviewing and inductions.
 
Matching Volunteers to Roles & Tasks
Explores issues and practice in the selection and matching of volunteers to tasks within the organisation, with a focus on interviewing skills.

Training & Development of Volunteers
To get the most out of your volunteers and to make sure that they deliver the best service for your organisation you need to train them effectively. If you are involved in the training of volunteers then you need to know how to develop and deliver the best possible training. Good training saves time and money. 
During this practical course you will learn how to assess learning needs, understand different learning styles and how to develop a training programme
 
Supporting & Supervising Your Volunteers
During this course you will learn how to put in place practical support structures that meet your needs and your volunteer’s needs. 
 
Developing Diversity Within Volunteering
Explores issues and develops ideas and practice relating to building a diverse volunteer workforce within organizations
 
Health & Safety and Risk Management in Volunteering
An opportunity to address relevant health and safety issues which impact on volunteering, and an overview of risk management.
 
Motivating & Retaining Volunteers
You will learn how to get the best from your volunteers and how to keep on motivating them.  The way to good retention of volunteers is good support and motivation. We will show you how.
  
Developing Volunteer Portfolios
Explores how a portfolio can be developed and structured to assist in the training and development of volunteers.
 
Positive Relations with Your Volunteers
Even the best run volunteer programmes sometimes experience problems. Volunteers can become unhappy, perform poorly or even break the rules. The impact can be serious for staff, other volunteers and the organisation. When relations between staff and volunteers become strained you need to be prepared and know how to deal with it.
During this course you will learn how to tackle some of the common and not so common challenges that can arise when you manage volunteers. Using real life case studies we will help prepare you with practical preventions and solutions.
 
First Aid 1 day

Emergency 1st Aid
                                      
This course is ideal for smaller workplaces that present few health and safety risks, where a nominated or appointed person is required to take charge in the event of an illness or accident.

This course is ideal for 'nominated' persons or for people who provide support to qualified first aiders.

Basic life saving first aid and workplace health and safety regulations
 
 
First Aid 3 Day
 Tues - Thurs 13th - 15th Sept 2011
First Aid at Work (HSE approved course)
 
Duration: 3 days                                      
This course covers the practical skills needed by a first aider in the modern workplace. The course gives the confidence and knowledge to deal with first aid emergencies.

Nominated workplace first aiders, or anyone wanting a comprehensive introduction to first aid 
 
Health & Safety
A level 2 H&S course intended to give a basic grounding of the subject to those attending.  Includes manual handling.

Introduction to computing and the internet 
An introductory course on basic computing skills as well as surfing the internet and getting the most out of the internet whilst staying safe.  Course costs £20 and includes tea/coffee 
 
Minute Taking
This course will help participants to identify the skills necessary for effective minute taking. Participants will learn how to set an effective agenda, identify what to include in the minutes, produce accurate and user-friendly minutes and have more confidence in their minute-taking skills.

Mentoring 
Mentoring is a powerful personal development and empowerment tool. It is an effective way of helping people to progress in their careers and personal life. This course will coach you in all aspects of mentoring.  Course costs £60 and includes refreshments, lunch and handouts
