Volunteers Week Caithness

Volunteers Week in Caithness was highlighted with 2 events promoting volunteering.

Wick Town Hall was the venue for the first event which was a civic reception.  Jamie stone MSP agreed to present awards to deserving volunteers in recognition of their contribution to the voluntary sector.

The first group was Ormlie Community Association Thurso, here we see Lorna Simpson [left] receiving award from Jamie Stone, and Deirdre Aitken of Caithness Deaf Care receiving award from Catherine Patterson.  Both groups complied with standards in excellence for support of their volunteers.

On left we see some of the volunteers that assist Catherine at Volunteering Highland to operate the service in Caithness, from left we have Liz Richard-Jones, middle-Trevor Brothwell and on right, Brenda Herrick each receiving a certificate of recognition.

Finally, we see Jamie Stone MSP presenting a gold MV Youth volunteering award to Lorraine Mackay for her admin services with Homestart Caithness.  A total of 5 gold awards were presented [front row]  2 Silver awards [middle row] and 2 Bronze awards [back row].  The recipients volunteered with a diverse range of volunteer opportunities and were geographicaly spread throughout Caithness.

 

 

 

 

The second event taking place during Volunteers Week was an Open-Day in Wick High School for senior pupils.  At this event various voluntary groups set up stalls to try and give information about their organisation and recruit volunteers.  Representatives from a diverse range of organisations attended on the day and were pleased with the response shown by pupils.
