Where to find us: The office is situated behind Alan Munro, the Estate Agent, which is between the Winking Owl and MacKenzie’s Pub and across from the Post Office. As you look at Alan Munro, there is a path that runs down the left hand side of the building, we are at the bottom of that path.

Volunteer Managers’ Network Meeting … every six weeks we exchange and share information with other volunteer co-ordinators in the area

Advocacy Highland
Advocacy Highland is about speaking up for and with people who are not being heard, helping them to express their own views. You will have the ability to listen and communicate effectively and are available for a few hours each week. Full training given.

Adult Basic Education
Adult Basic Education provides support for basic literacy, numeracy and provides help with English as a second language. Tutoring is on a one to one basis. Full support and training given.

Walk Leader
Step It Up Highland
This group is for people wishing to make a return to health following s stroke, heart attack or other medical problems. The walks take place once a week, at the same time and from the same meeting place and the idea is to increase the length walked, as health returns. Each walk has two walk leaders and everyone goes for a well earned cup of tea at the end.

Girl Guide Association
This Association is the UK’s largest voluntary movement for girls and women. It aims to enable girls to mature into confident, capable and caring women. If you enjoy working with children, have good communication skills, are a good organiser and can commit to a set evening once a week in school time, then this is for you.

Scout Association
The scout leader will work once a week, along with other leaders to help teach boys skills and teamwork. You need plenty of enthusiasm and enjoy working with children.

Helper for the Visually Impaired
Highland Blind Society
The aim of the project is to give people back some independence that loosing your sight takes away. The group meets the first Tuesday of every month and can be anything from indoor activities to going on outings. This organisation has groups in Kingussie and Grantown

Badenoch & Strathspey Youth Clubs
This volunteer opportunity is with youngsters of Badenoch & Strathspey and would involve being available at weekends and in the evenings and to help with projects such as the Street Link Project

Volunteer Learning Support, LEAD This organisation assists adults with physical or sensory impairment with learning opportunities. This can be done either at home or within a local learning centre.

Museum Assistant
Grantown Museum
There are lots of volunteers opportunities at the museum, such as at reception, research, data collecting and using IT skills. Hours are from 10-1 pm and 1-4 pm Monday to Saturday. You will need to be good with the general public and have a good telephone manner.

Driver and Telephonists
Community Car Scheme
This scheme is one of the largest voluntary organisations in the area and has over 100 drivers as volunteers. You can work for a little or as often as you wish, driving the elderly or vulnerable to appointments in the area. This is all co-ordinated by telephonists, who work from home for two days every month. Training and full support given.

Shopping Trolley Assistant
Aviemore Shopping Scheme
The volunteers take local residents to Tesco’s every Thursday morning, helping them with their shopping. Transport is in the local community van.

This new bookshop is opening in Kingussie and is selling books and making tea/coffee to enable young adults with learning difficulties to have the opportunity of paid work.

Voluntary Action In Badenoch and Strathspey
VABS provides information and advise to local voluntary organisations in the Badenoch & Strathspey area. The volunteering opportunity involves telephone messages, IT skills and general office duties.

Community and Advice Information Service
The Bureau provides independent, free, confidential and impartial advice and information to the local community. Some of the volunteers tasks will be to give advice, write letters, complete forms on behalf of clients and clarify complex information where necessary. Full training given.

Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland
This group aims to improve the quality of life for people in Scotland who have been affected by chest, heart and stroke illnesses, through medical research, advice, information and support in the community. A weekly group meets to enable clients to get together.

Uphill Ski Club
This group is a registered charity, which works with people with all kinds of disabilities and all volunteers need to be is a basic skier, so they can assist the qualified adaptive instructors with ski lessons

Shop Assistant
Highland Hospice Shop
The shop provides funds for hospices throughout Scotland, thereby ensuring ongoing treatment, research and good facilities for those affect by cancer. There are several opportunities available from operating the till, serving the customers and taking in stock. Shifts are for 3 hours each in either the morning or the afternoon.

Visiting on a weekly basis, with their dog, elderly people either in hospital, nursing homes, day centres or at home. The dog will have to pass an assessment.
